LANDSCAPING PROJECTS IN THE PORTLAND, OR METRO AREA
Every project documented. Every detail in writing.Every landscaping project in the Portland metro area starts with a unique set of challenges:
Slope • Soil • Drainage • Aging hardscape • Overgrown plantings
The projects below show real work completed by the Monaghan’s Landscaping crew across Portland-area neighborhoods.
Each entry includes:
- What we found
- What we proposed in the written estimate
- What we built
- The finished result
Every one of these projects began with a free on-site consultation and a detailed proposal with line-item pricing before any work started. We add new projects here as we complete them across Multnomah, Clackamas, and Washington Counties.
Paver Walkway Replacement, Eastmoreland
This Eastmoreland homeowner had an aging concrete walkway that had served its purpose for years but no longer matched the character of the home. The straight, flat concrete path showed years of wear, with discoloration and surface deterioration from Portland's wet winters.
Our crew removed the old concrete and excavated 6 to 8 inches of material underneath. We replaced it with tumbled cobblestone pavers in warm earth tones, bordered by a charcoal paver soldier course on both edges. The new walkway follows a gentle curve from the street to the front entry, replacing the rigid straight line of the original path with a more natural flow that complements the property's mature landscaping. We finished by spreading blended soil from S&H Landscape Supply across both sides of the walkway to prepare the yard for future planting.
Concrete walkway removal, 6 to 8 inch excavation, tumbled cobblestone paver installation with charcoal border, curved walkway design, blended soil regrading.
Every component above was specified in the homeowner's written estimate with line-item pricing before work began.
Front Yard Renovation, Rock Creek
This Rock Creek property had a front yard that's common across Portland's NW suburbs: moss had overtaken most of the lawn, the remaining grass was thin and patchy, and the existing plantings were overgrown and shapeless. The slight slope from the house to the street made the erosion and bare spots even more visible from the curb.
We started by removing all the existing sod, weeds, and overgrown plants. Along the street edge, we installed a 1-foot concrete block retaining wall with flat caps to define the property line and hold the grade. Behind the wall, we planted black mondo grass, David viburnum, barberries, jasmines, and daphnes throughout the bed. A 1/4-minus gravel pathway now runs through the side yard to provide clean access to the backyard. We finished the beds with brown hemlock mulch to suppress weeds and retain moisture through Portland's dry summers.

Your Neighbors Will Notice the Difference
We're committed to using clean, renewable energy. All-electric mowers, trimmers, and blowers running at 65-70 dB, roughly the volume of a normal conversation. Most landscaping crews show up with gas equipment at 85+ decibels with exhaust fumes drifting into open windows. We don't think that's acceptable anymore. No fumes. No noise complaints. Just the work getting done.
"The crew showed up on time and cleaned the site at the end of each day, and they were all incredibly talented and friendly. The final outcome exceeds expectations. The project was to remove marshy grass, put in drainage, then install architectural slabs with Mexican pebbles, topped off with low voltage lighting which is amazing."
